Charles Belfied, James Monroe Chapter, Presents Program to Students of the Light of the World Academy, Essex County
Charles Belfield, James Monroe Chapter, presented a program to the students at Light of the World Academy In Essex County. The program encouraged students to learn American History and how possibly their Ancestors played a part in it. Over 40 students and teachers attended the program . Eras of history covered 1700 to 1750, The American Revolution, War of 1812 and the Civil War. Compatriot Belfield portrayed his ancestors that lived in those times. At the end of the program the students enjoyed having a hands on time with many artifacts he has collected from each era.
VASSAR President's Letter to Virginia House of Delegates and Senate on Legislation Affecting War Monuments
Paul Chase of the Colonel William Grayson Chapter gave a talk to the Manassas Lions Club on the process of writing and publishing his book and a summary of the contents of his book: The American Revolution: A Compendium of Terms and Topics.
The talk described lessons learned in selecting a suitable topic, developing a manuscript, finding and choosing a publisher, and the publishing process. Paul gave a summary of the information in his book with a focus on Terms and Topics not adequately covered in other books on the American Revolution.
There were 17 Lions present at the meeting. Following the presentation, Paul sold and autographed six books. After the Lions meeting, Paul was invited to make his presentation to the Lifelong Learning Institute and their typical audience of about one-hundred members. Manassas Lions Club President Sharon Ashurst introduced Paul.
CWG Flag Committee Chairman Dave Button presented Mayor Hal Parish a Certificate for proper display of the U.S. Flag at the Manassas City Hall. The City displays the flag (24 ft x 7 ft) all year and illuminates the flag at night. The Mayor accepted the certificate on behalf of the City of Manassas as the City Council observed the presentation. Chapter Vice President Barry Schwoerer, in the uniform of a typical Revolutionary War militiaman, accompanied Mr. Button. The certificate is the second presented to a function of the Manassas City Government; the first was to the Manassas Museum in the Fall of 2017.
On 13 January, 2018, Colonel William Grayson Chapter installed their 2018 Officers at the City Tavern, Manassas, VA. by former CWG Chapter President Thad Hartman. Officers serving in 2017 were re-elected without opposition. Officers installed for 2018 were: President: Mike Taimi; Vice President: Barry Schwoerer, Ken Morris Secretary; Treasurer: Jeff Windland; Registrar: Mike Weyler; Chaplain: Richard Potter; Historian: Robert Brunner. On January 8, the Williamsburg Chapter recognized six Eagle Scouts of Troop 103 at their Court of Honor. Certificates were presented by Bob Spencer (on left), Past President of Williamsburg Chapter, assisted by Heath Richardson, Chapter Chairman (not in photo), and Harley Stewart, Chapter President (on far right). Fort Harrison Chapter Presents Flag Certificate and Veteran's Service Recognition Certificate to Bryan Horne
.On January 4, Compatriot Kirk Sheap presented a SAR Flag Certificate to Bryan Horne, General Manager of Harrisonburg Honda in recognition for their display of the U.S. Flag. Additionally, Mr. Horne was recognized for his service in the U.S. Army including serving in Operation Desert Storm (submitted by Kirk Sheap)
