report submitted by Col William Grayson Vice President Barrry Schwoerer At its November chapter meeting at the Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, brothers Christian Wilhelm Siegfried Powers, age 5; Erik Thorsten Powers, age 4; Otto Theodor Friedrich Powers, age 2; and Henry Walther Sigismund Powers, age 1 were inducted into the Colonel William Grayson Chapter of the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution. The new junior members were proudly presented to the chapter by parents, Steven and Ashley Powers, grandparents Nathan L. and Laurie Gwaltney and great grandmother Dolly Daugherty. The Powers family lives in Leesburg, Virginia.
The Patriot ancestor of the Powers brothers was Simon C. Groot, a Private in the 2nd Albany County Militia, NY. The new members uncle, Nathan D. Gwaltney, and grandfather, Nathan L. Gwaltney, have each submitted applications for membership in NSSAR

Dr. Charles Harmon Boggs of the Fort Harrison Chapter, and 26 year member of the Virginia SAR, passed away recently. He had been Virginia SAR Surgeon 2003-2004, Fairfax Resolves President 1993-1994, and member of several state and national SAR committees. His obituary in The Roanoke Times can be found here.
The George Washington Chapter VASSAR and the Kate Waller Barrett Chapter VADAR conducted the annual Veteran's Day commemoration and wreath laying at General Washington's tomb at Mount Vernon at 2:15 pm on November 11.. The wreath was presented by Col John Brigden, USA (Ret) and Cdr. Joseph Famme, USN (Ret). Kate Waller Barrett VADAR Chapter Regent Kathy Gray and George Washington VASSAR Chapter President Paul Walden gave remarks. George Washington Chapter Vice President Ernest Coggins served as Master of Ceremonies. The VASSAR Color Guard presented colors and Fifer Don Francisco provided the music accompaniment. Despite the cold weather, we had a large turnout from the public. Cdr. Joseph Famme and Col. The Commemoration was held at the Historic Manassas Court House. CWG Chapter provided flags of the United States and State of Virginia and participated in Color Guard for presentation of Colors, with CWG member Barry Schwoerer acting as Color Guard Commander and carrying the Virginia State flag.
The program remembered those men who served in WWI who were family members of EMHC members. The names of Prince William County men who made the ultimate sacrifice were read and a moment of silence given for their service. CWG Chapter members attending were: William “Bill” Broadus, President Mike Taimi, Vice President Barry Schwoerer, Secretary Ken Morris, Dave Button, Sean Schwoerer, and Jacob Schwoerer 5 Nov 2017 Washington Memorial Chapel This morning Virginia SAR President Mike Elston led a delegation of eleven Virginia SAR members from five chapters (Col James Wood II, Culpeper Minutemen, Fairfax Resolves, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson) to the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge for a service honoring the Continental soldiers who wintered at Valley Forge during the Revolution. Seven of the Virginia SAR members participated in the Color Guard during the ceremony. Also participating were members of the Virginia DAR and the New Jersey SAR and DAR.
report by CWG President Mike Taimi 4 Nov 2017 Manassas, VA The Colonel William Grayson Chapter Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution led Sons, Daughters and Children of the American Revolution in the Greater Manassas Veterans Day Parade in Old Town Manassas. Chapter members were joined by three members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and three members of the Children of the American Revolution. Chapter members participating included: Mike Taimi, wearing the uniform of a Continental Sailor; Barry Schwoerer, wearing a militia uniform, Thad Hartman, wearing a militia uniform, Paul Chase, wearing a Continental Army uniform, Dave Button, George Ax, Mike Weyler with grandson Richard Leed, and Kevin Schwoerer. Delegate and CWG member Richard Anderson joined the parade at mid-point, Chapter members Ken Morris and John Ward marched with the American Legion, then joined the CWG team toward the end of the Parade. DAR members included Melyssa Stratton-Webb, Regent Elizabeth McIntosh Hammill Chapter, Paula Schwoerer wearing a Revolutionary era dress, and Anna Schwoerer. Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) members included sisters Arianna, Sophia and Gracelynn Schwoerer wearing Revolutionary War era dresses and hats or bonnets. Mrs. Stratton-Webb carried the DAR flag and Arianna Schwoerer carried the C.A.R. Flag. Junior SAR Member Richard Leed, Grandson of Mike Weyler, helped carry the Colonel William Grayson Chapter banner and led our group as we marched in the parade.
