report by Bob Vogler, Colonel George Waller Chapter president 01 Jul 2017 Gretna, VA On Saturday, July 1 at the Dove Family Cemetery outside of Gretna, Virginia a triple grave marking was conducted to honor three generations of the family who served in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
In particular, William Dove served four tours in the Revolutionary War, two tours were on the sloop “Gen’l Washington”. William Dove sailed to France carrying dispatches. He also served in the Virginia Militia from Fairfax County. There were approximately 40 members of the family present and the ceremony included representatives from the Fincastle Resolutions, Dan River, and Colonel George Waller Chapters - VASSAR, the Sons of the Revolution, the Virginia Society War of 1812, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
