20 Sep 2015 Richmond, VA report by Robert E Halpern,Richmond Chapter Flag Committee Chairman, Historian, and Third Vice President At 1:30PM on Sunday September 20th St Marks Methodist Church received a SAR Flag Award at their Church Council meeting. Their Award Presentation read, " This Spring when asked to collect American Flags for Bon Air American Legion Post 354 for their proper retirement the Saint Mark's Church family quickly took on this community project. This simple action helps to encourage citizens to not only respectfully fly their American Flag but it also encourages the proper care and disposal of our National Symbol." It was for these actions that St Marks was presented with the Flag Award.
Here is a picture of their flag box. The inscription below reads, "Please place your tired, old, torn,faded, worn out American Flags that we are collecting for proper disposal,'retirement', done by the Bon Air American Legion Post 354. Thank you for your support! Says old Mr. American Flag, ' Just like most of you when I get old and worn it is time for me to properly retire.' "
