Virginia SAR President Ed Truslow has laid out four presidential initiatives that he encourages each chapter to complete. So far two chapters have completed all four initiatives: Fort Harrison and the Culpeper Minutemen. Other chapters are nearing completion and all are strongly encouraged to complete as many of the initiatives as possible. The initiatives include:
#1 Chapter attendance at the Blandford Cemetery Patriot Monument on Saturday April 16th.
#2 Chapter awarding at least one (1) War Service or Military Service medal and certificate to one of their members.
#3 Chapter giving a brief talk about the SAR and their chapter to a local civic organization such as the Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary, etc. Also be sure to leave some copies of our new VASSAR Brochure at that talk.
#4 Chapter and member donations passed to VASSAR for a lump sum gift to new American Revolution Museum in Yorktown (ARMY). I announced a VASSAR target of $10,000 in my inaugural speech. Afterwards several members spoke to me and convinced me that we can raise $15,000 through your donations so that is what we are shooting for. See Update Below
Virginia SAR Compatriots,
At our Semi-Annual Meeting in Williamsburg, I had the great pleasure of announcing that our Society had met our goal of gathering $25,000 for the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown. In the company of many compatriots at the museum itself, I presented a “ceremonial check” to Peter Armstrong who represented the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. They are obviously pleased and will place the Virginia Society’s name on the donor wall inside the museum.
Thus our fund raising campaign for the museum is complete. You needn’t send any further contributions for my initiative. However, any funds sent prior to this announcement will still be part of our donation to the museum.
Thanks to all,
Edward W. Truslow - President
Sons of the American Revolution
