Mike Weyler is sworn in as Virginia SAR President by National SAR President General Addington

GLEN ALLEN, Va. (Feb. 8, 2025) – In a memorable ceremony conducted by the Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution (Virginia SAR), Michael E. Weyler, Ph.D., was installed as the 105th President of the Virginia SAR by National SAR President General Darryl Addington in ceremonies held during the 135th Annual Meeting within the Henrico Ballroom of the Virginia Crossings Hotel.

Dr. Michael E. Weyler succeeded William D. Greaf, DPA (Williamsburg Chapter SAR) who served as the 104th Virginia SAR President in 2024–25. President Greaf was awarded the state society's highest award—the Patriot Medal—for his outstanding leadership and accomplishments during the past year.  Dr. Greaf also received a sword and scabbard as a gift from his Virginia SAR officers.

Dr. Weyler, by profession a Mechanical Engineer, now retired, held licenses as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in 16 states, and holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan where he served on the Mechanical Engineering faculty for six years.

As a Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer, a Seabee and a Navy construction diver, his 23 years of service included design and construction in Vietnam, underwater construction operations worldwide, management of U.S. facilities in Antarctica and an assignment to the Mechanical Engineering Faculty at the U.S. Naval Academy. He retired with the rank of Captain.

His business world experience includes employment by Exxon for the engineering and construction of offshore oil and gas platforms, employment by a national engineering firm as a Forensic Engineer and Fire and Explosion Investigator, and finally as a sole proprietor of his own Fire and Explosion Investigation firm. He is a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) by the International Association of Arson Investigators.

Dr. Weyler was sworn into the SAR and the Colonel William Grayson Chapter on September 19, 2014, at the Virginia SAR Semi-Annual Meeting, by Joe Dooley, at that time the immediate Past President General of the SAR. Dr. Weyler served in the Colonel William Grayson Chapter as Assistant Registrar, Registrar, Secretary, Vice President and President. He joined the Color Guard in 2019 and remains a participant.
Also in 2019, he was appointed chairman of the Virginia SAR Americanism Committee, responsible for the successful submission of the Americanism Scoresheets for Virginia and all its chapters. He served in that position for three years until selected as Virginia SAR Third Vice President in 2022.

At the National Society SAR, he is a member of the following committees; the Americanism Committee, the Veterans Committee, the Veterans Recognition Committee, the Knight Essay Committee, the Poster and Brochure Committee, the Bylaws Committee and the Headquarters and Maintenance Committee.

Finally, he is a George Washington Fellow and a financial supporter of our state and national programs, and he has brought his two brothers, his son and his five grandsons into the SAR.

‘On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry delivered his famous declaration, “Give me Liberty of Give me Death,” which served as a battle cry for Virginia Patriots.  During 1775, the Virginia Patriots pressed the fight for independence, which eventually compelled the departure of the Royal Governor.  Since the year 2025 is the 250th anniversary of many revolutionary war events in Virginia, I have declared that, for 2025, our Virginia Society’s Theme will be ‘Virginia – 1775.’”  -- Virginia SAR President Mike Weyler.

Dr. Weyler's patriot ancestor on his original SAR application, approved in August 2014, is David Stone, a private who served with Captain Jeremiah Wiswell, and marched on the day of alarm 250 years ago in support of the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, which marked the beginning of hostilities for the Revolutionary War. Additionally, he has completed three supplemental applications for patriots, including Moses Stone, son of David Stone, and all of whom were part of the regiments of the Massachusetts Militia or Continental Line. Dr. Weyler is also an officer in the Order of Founders and Patriots of America and the Society of the War of 1812 in Virginia.
