RICHMOND, Va., April 3, 2026 — The Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (Virginia SAR) announced an expanded statewide initiative to strengthen collaboration with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), reinforcing a long‑standing partnership rooted in shared heritage, patriotic service, and preparations for America’s 250th anniversary.

The initiative builds on national efforts led by the SAR DAR Liaison Committee and reflects Virginia’s commitment to welcoming DAR‑connected families into the SAR, recognizing the contributions of DAR members, and expanding joint programming across the Commonwealth. With one of the nation’s largest SAR memberships and a vibrant network of DAR chapters, Virginia is positioned to lead in advancing this partnership.

“Virginia SAR and Virginia DAR have worked side‑by‑side for generations to honor Patriot ancestors and preserve the story of America’s founding,” said Virginia SAR President Darrin Schmidt. “This renewed partnership strengthens our shared mission and ensures that families connected to DAR have a clear and welcoming pathway into the SAR.”

As part of the expanded effort, Virginia SAR will promote new SAR medals recognizing DAR members for exceptional support, encourage chapter‑level collaboration on ceremonies and historical observances, and provide enhanced membership assistance for sons, grandsons, brothers, and spouses of DAR members. The organization will also support joint America 250 programming, including commemorations, grave markings, and educational outreach.

The Virginia SAR DAR Liaison Committee will continue to coordinate statewide engagement, assist with award nominations, and share best practices for chapter outreach.
