Friends and Compatriots:

It is our pleasure to invite all of you to celebrate with us the 245th Anniversary of the Battle of the Virginia Capes scheduled for 11:00 am, September 5, 2026, at the Comte de Grasse Statue located on Ft. Story, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
 
The celebration at Fort Story will celebrate three historically intertwined events:
 
The 245th anniversary of the Battle of the Capes/Chesapeake
The 400th Anniversary of the French Navy
The 50th Anniversary of the unveiling of the Comte de Grasse statue
 
The principal sponsor of the ceremony is the Norfolk Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution in full and active partnership with the French Navy, Marine Nationale. 
 
If you will be representing a Society (National, State, Chapter), and/or either presenting a wreath or participating in the Color Guard, please REGISTER with this link for the event which will help us to identify all the participants properly.
 
Please note:
This ceremony is being held on a US military installation. A DOD or government-issued identification is required for access. If you are planning to attend and do not have proper identification, the attached form (SECNAV 5512) also attached to this email, must be completed and returned to [email protected] no later than August 8th for further processing. Please be sure to initial, sign and date where indicated.
 
Entry to Fort Story with be through Gate 8 (Atlantic Ave entrance). Guests will be required to provide a state-issued, “Real ID” card for verification with the access list when they enter the installation. (Note: A REAL ID can be easily identified by the small star symbol in the upper right-hand corner.)
