Norfolk Chapter's Compatriot Grave Marker Dedication

Honoree:  Jean Baron de Lustrac (1894-1973), served as a cavalry officer (17th Dragoons) in the French Army during WWI. Wounded twice and gassed, he was awarded France's Legion d'honneur and the Croix de Guerre, and also received the Croix Militaire Belge. Returning to active duty in 1941, but limited by his WWI injuries, de Lustrac served as a Major in the French Military Mission in Washington, D.C.  He was a member of the Society Sons of the American Revolution (admitted in 1936) and the Norfolk Chapter VASSAR.  His ancestor was a French Army Captain who fought with distinction at the Battle of Yorktown. Separately, his ancestor met with Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.  Baron De Lustrac married a Norfolk native (Helen) in 1925.  They are buried side by side in the Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk
