Event Description

Virginia SAR invites chapter officers, treasurers, and committee leaders to a special virtual workshop on Federal Nonprofit Tax Reporting, featuring distinguished presenter The Honorable Jon T. Rymer, former Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Defense, and Virginia Society SAR Treasurer.

This session will provide clear, practical guidance on the federal reporting responsibilities of nonprofit organizations—knowledge essential for every chapter committed to transparency, compliance, and strong stewardship of member resources. Whether you are new to chapter leadership or seeking to strengthen your understanding of IRS expectations, this workshop offers timely, authoritative insight.

About the Presenter

Jon Rymer in a business suitHon. Jon T. Rymer brings an exceptional depth of experience in federal oversight, auditing standards, and organizational accountability. Confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Inspector General for the Department of Defense in 2013, he previously served as Inspector General for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and as Interim Inspector General for the Securities and Exchange Commission.

A Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Government Auditing Professional, Mr. Rymer currently chairs the Audit Committee of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. He serves on the Comptroller General’s Advisory Council on Government Auditing Standards, chairs the Green Book Advisory Council, and contributes to the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board’s Accounting and Auditing Policy Committee.

His private‑sector leadership includes senior management roles at First American National Bank of Tennessee and Boatmen’s Bank of Arkansas, followed by a decade at KPMG LLP, where he advised clients on internal auditing, quality assurance, and business process improvement.

Mr. Rymer also served more than 30 years in the U.S. Army’s active and reserve components, earning the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Inspector General School and holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
