A 250th Anniversary commemoration. On April 18, 1776, an incident at Sandy Point that excited local interest was an engagement involving a British ship loaded with flour. The ship was taken by men at the fort but was later retaken by the British. A Charles City militia man injured in the fighting and a Charles City resident who came to watch the conflict was charged with treason.
