Category: CHAPTER SPONSORED EVENT

The only parade in the U.S. to honor NATO features over 100 parade units including U.S. and international bands, military units, community groups and floats representing ever NATO Member Nation!

For SAR members intending to march in the parade:

  • For the march we will have a small Heritage Combined Color Guard. This will be essentially what we have done at Yorktown over the past two years. All in Rev War period uniform.
  • If you plan to park near the parade start, you must go to parking lot “C” only. The other designated parking lots are for other participants.
  • If you plan to park at parking lot “C” you will need to display this in your car.
  • The route also shows the MacArthur Center Mall (brown star) parking lot, which might be worth using as it is closer to the parade finish point rather than trudging all the way back to the parade start point. If you choose to do so, note that the electric rail (the Norfolk Tide) stops at MacArthur Mall and runs all the way to the Parade Muster at Harbor Park if you don’t want to walk the distance.
  • If you are considering driving and parking at lot “C” depending on when you plan to arrive, you will encounter road closures. The best bet is to take Brambleton Ave (skirting the Scope and driving towards Norfolk State University) and take a right (south) onto Park Avenue. Stay on Park Ave until you reach Harbor Park, and parking lot “C” will be immediately on your right-hand side.
  • Muster location and time: Since the American formation will be the last to start, you have some slop time, but I’d recommend showing up about 9:30 a.m. You can remove your coats and find shade near the float. Please remain hydrated, of course. The floats will be in Lot “F” on the map, which is our muster location. On previous parades I’ve participated in, it has been fun to walk past the various floats and chat with our international guests.
  • Post parade:  if you wish, the International Village set up at Town Point Park will be fun to visit and browse. It’s open till 4 p.m.
