Media Inquiries

Accidents–Incidents. The Virginia SAR has adopted an Accident-Incident Response Plan. Any incident or accident occurring during an SAR-sponsored event, or a non-SAR event with Virginia SAR member participation, must be reported in a timely manner to your respective Chapter leadership. In addition, the Virginia SAR Color Guard Commander, Virginia SAR Risk Manager, and the Virginia SAR Media Team must be notified.

Any requests by an external media representative for SAR accident information shall immediately be referred to the Virginia SAR Media Liaison Team:

Initial Voice/Text Report 

Within 15 minutes of the event, call the Virginia SAR Risk Manager and provide the following details.  Leave voicemail (if necessary):

• Date, time, and location (e.g., nearest town, state) of the incident 
• Did the event result in any personal injury or property damage?
• Name and contact details of the Chapter president (or lead SAR official)

The Virginia SAR Accident–Incident Form (PDF, March 2026) must be completed as soon as practicable and submitted to the VASSAR Risk Manager noted above.
